The evolution of the Riddell suspension helmet
can be thoroughly documented through the headgear worn by Daryle Lamonica (AKA
"The Mad Bomber") during his high school, college and professional career.
Daryle also preferred Riddell facemasks having worn a "stubby" one bar in high
school and a "BD-9" two bar for the remainder of his career. For extra
protection after breaking his nose on two separate occasions he temporarily
wore a Dungard facemask (Ken Stabler and Ed Podolak styles). He strongly
disliked both Dungard facemasks due to their limited field of vision and in
both instances quickly returned back to his Riddell two bar facemask after
only one game.
