If you are down on your luck and a lottery ticket seems like your only hope it may be smart to bring Earl Morrall along to choose your numbers. Earl is well known for "making the right calls" for some of pro football's most successful teams. Most pro football fans are quite familiar with his valuable contributions to both the Colt's 1970 and the Dolphin's (unbeaten and untied) 1972 championship teams. Prior to being paid to play in the pros Earl was also a winning quarterback at Michigan State University (although considering the 1950s college football payola scandals he may have had to take a pay cut to join the Forty Niners as a rookie in 1956). As a senior he led the 1955 Spartans to a 9 - 1 record followed by a Rose Bowl victory over UCLA.

As reflected by the authentic Helmet Hut reproduction pictured above, Earl's MSU Riddell "RK-4" headgear with a "BT-2" (stubby) one bar was "state of the art" for that era. The harder "Kralite" plastic used in his helmet had just been introduced in 1954 replacing the much more pliable "Tenite" material. The tubular one bar facemask was introduced by Riddell in 1955 and just in time for Earl's successful senior season. MSU's tasteful dark green and white school colors brilliantly glow from Riddell's famous flare shaped shell.

Earl wore helmets for several outstanding team's during his glorious and colorful career. This simply elegant 1955 Michigan State Spartan helmet proudly represents the first of the many great teams where this humble winner excelled.  Thanks Dr. Ken!

Squeeze one more in there Earl
