This is the first helmet logo that was used by the LSU Tigers. They switched from 3" numerals to this design in 1972. Bert Jones, former great Baltimore Colt quarterback, wore this style helmet while leading the Tigers in the early 1970s. The air / fluid filled padded cell technology was just beginning to take hold during this period but Bert along with most of his teammates still preferred the conventional Riddell suspension webbing helmet.
