Steelers

1972 Frenchy Fuqua
(Authentic Reproduction)

Normal Helmet Aficionado - "Hey that Frenchy Fuqua helmet looks great but everyone knows that starting in 1970 the Steelers used Black impregnated shells and this is obviously a white shell that has been painted black -- nice try though."

Helmet Hut Reader - "Due to his larger than normal head size, Frenchy required an extra large shell size. Black impregnated shells were available starting in 1970 only for regular and large shell sizes only. Extra large shells were not available in impregnated colors other than white until the 1980s."

This is a great representation of John "Frenchy" Fuqua's (AKA "The Count") 1972 Steeler helmet. Although he was known for his outrageous wardrobe off the field, including shoes with "see through" heels that were filled with water and live goldfish, he was also remembered as a fierce blocker and important part of the great Steeler running attack during the their 1970s climb to become one of the greatest teams of all time.
