Chicago Bears - 1966

(Game Worn)

This classic "Wilson" helmet proudly reflects those infamous "monsters of the midway" during their 1963 championship season. The dark navy or midnight blue shell, which matched their jerseys, was often incorrectly confused as black in color. Please notice the correct period "Schutt" face mask bolted directly to the shell. The direct bolt-on style was later replaced by flexible mounting clips that absorbed force better which reduced neck injuries and allowed the mask to be removed quicker if necessary. The Bears, unlike the rest of the league, used "Wilson" rather "Riddell" helmets as their founder and long time owner / coach George "Papa Bear" Halas had personal business ties with the Wilson Sporting Goods Co. which was headquartered in Chicago.
