Florida Blazers
Larry Grantham
(Game Worn)
Before
Mississippi had Archie Manning as a genuine football hero, the state and the
school had Larry Grantham. The Crystal Springs, MS was an integral part of the
great Ole Miss teams of 1957, '58, and '59 and the end that was so devastating
on the defensive side of the field was named to the All SEC team in both 1958
and '59. Overshadowed in the national public's eye by teammates like Charlie
Flowers and Bobby Franklin, Grantham was named to the SEC Team Of The Decade for
the 1950's, the Ole Miss Team Of The Century, and is a member of both the Ole
Miss and State Of Mississippi Athletic Halls Of Fame. Grantham was the New York
Titans first-round draft choice in the new American Football League and started
all but three games in a career that lasted from 1960 through 1972. Named as All
AFL at outside linebacker from '61 through 1964, Grantham also played in eight
AFL All Star games, was named to the All Time AFL Second Team, and was the Jets
captain for five seasons and their MVP in 1970. The Players Association Vice
President, Grantham retired to the Jets broadcast booth until the urge to play
found him on the field with the Florida Blazers in 1974. As a
coach-on-the-field, he joined Perry Moss's staff as the defensive coordinator
for the 1975 San Antonio Wings. The HA 9 Microfit
was the helmet of choice for Larry Grantham and shows wonderful game wear.
