Dick Shiner - 1963

Terp fans loved Dick Shiner, he was most notable for some time as the only Maryland quarterback to beat Penn State.  Dick played with Maryland from 1961-1963 and was a MD HOF inductee in 2000.   Considered one the Terps most consistent and coachable QB's in their history.

Dick volunteers much of his time mentoring younger quarterbacks at Bishop McDevitt High School.  His latest work has been freshman's Marcus Stone, now N.C. State's back up quarterback.   Helmet Hut had an opportunity to spend some time with the Shiner family and build a couple of Dick's past helmets.  Dick played professional ball for 11 years with 6 teams.  We chose his first team the Redskins, and built that helmet to spec.   As "MEN" you just have to love those helmets sitting on that mantle.  Why do we get the sneaking suspicion that they won't be there long?
