"Paper Lion"
Reunion
The classic Riddell "RK" suspension helmet made a stunning 50 yard line debut
on Sunday, September 21, before a capacity crowd at Ford Field during Sunday's
Lions -- Vikings game. At half-time the current Detroit Lion's organization
honored the 40th anniversary of the 1960s era Detroit Lions team that was the
subject of the George Plimpton's book and movie "Paper Lion." To help celebrate
the occasion each returning player, including Mr. Plimpton, was presented with
a vintage Riddell "RK" 1960s era Lion's helmet. Each helmet was proudly
personalized by Helmet Hut.com to reflect the same mask style that was worn
by each former player during his playing days. Former Lion heroes such as Lem
Barney, Roger Brown, Gail Cogdill, John Gordy, Alex Karras, Earl Morrall and Joe
Schmidt enthusiastically responded with the now familiar remark "this is just
like the old helmet that I wore" as they each received an authentic reproduction
of their original Riddell suspension helmet. After half-time all the
participants returned to their honorary suite to watch the remainder of the
game, share old stories and exchange autographs on their already
treasured helmets. There was virtual agreement among the audience that this very
special and emotional event received an extra boost when the returning heroes
were presented with the most symbolic piece of their fighting armor -- their old
Riddell suspensions! Please join Helmet Hut.com and enjoy the accompanying
photos that capture this glorious reunion.

We sadly morn the loss of this great man and we celebrate his life with the knowledge that his last days on earth were, in his own words, the most special of his life.
