Texas 1963
(Game Worn)

This a great helmet from a great era
at Texas. The Riddell "RAC-K2" is a "RK-2" model with factory installed "AC"
or "Aero Cell" padding. The helmet bears a 1963 date stamp which means that is
probably was used during the glorious Tommy Nobis era. The helmet is missing
the player numerals which throughout the 1960s were located above the "steer"
logos, yet there is still visible discoloration and glue residue in where they
once were. The double "Riddell" stamping on the rear of the helmet indicates
that the helmet was sent back to the Riddell factory for reconditioning at
least one time. Texas also used Marietta helmets and face masks in the 1960s
and the small extra hole above the Riddell "BD-9" face mask suggests that it
may have been fitted with a wide mount Marietta mask prior to the mask shown.
This spirit and pageantry of 1960s era college football is legendary and this
helmet is a great symbol of that unforgettable period.
