A campus wide contest was held to determine the design of this very first Spartan head logo to be used on a Michigan State helmet. This exact design was used for these what many experts consider to be two of the greatest "back to back" teams ever assembled in the history of college football. The helmet numerals were reduced in size and tastefully relocated to the rear of the helmet. Bubba Smith, Gene Washington, George Webster and the fabled 10-10 tie with Notre Dame. What more could you ask for in a collectable helmet?
