Once again, the equipment managers were requested to wield their paint brushes and the white stripe that adorned the green helmet shell of the ’49 season, was painted over. With a change to an all green helmet for the 1950 season, Solomon Kaulukukui was still a star but could not carry the 1950 team past a 5-4-2 mark. Despite a close 28-27 Pineapple Bowl victory over Denver University it was deemed time for a coaching change. After posting a five year record of 34-18-3 where the pattern of getting beaten badly by the better collegiate teams held, Kaulukukui stepped down. The Rainbows managed to lure Archie Kodros to sign on as head coach for the 1951 season. The former captain and outstanding center at Michigan had been an assistant coach at his alma mater and posted a 4-7 mark with the Rainbows, but his only collegiate win came over The College Of Idaho. His debut season was also his last and Kodros returned to the States and was one of the assistants for the dominating Iowa teams of the late Fifties.
